Nightlife in Glasgow: a student guide

By Julian Pla

Glasgow has a booming nightlife

Mondays don’t need to be boring anymore, especially in Glasgow. Whether you want a calm night to start the week or a party we got you covered.

With pub quizzes happening in different places in town and the west end, swing by ARK on North Frederick Street at 8p.m to enjoy a night of artisanal brewed beer and a fun themed pub quiz with an entry fee of £1 per person and a jackpot for the first place of usually around £60-£100 or a £25 bar tab for the second place or go to ‘Merchant’,  on West George street, for some cocktails. With a £2 pp entry fee and a jackpot of £50 for the first place and a beer tower for second place.

If you are looking for a party vibe instead some clubs like Garage or Kokomo have student nights going on with drinks as little as 99p going on from 10:30pm till 3am. DJ’s playing all night long. You can also expect some face-painting down at ‘Garage’ and two rooms opened for different music vibes.

Wednesday middle of the week perfect for a spontaneous night out with friends. Polo lounge runs its mythical “Lollipop Wednesday”. With cheap drinks, good music and great vibes. Open to everyone from 10:30p.m till 3am, if you are planning to go make sure you go with friends, the bouncers can be picky and refuse entry if you are by yourself.

Thursday night is student night, a good party is almost anywhere in town. Firewater has its legendary “Camden rocks” going all night long, with cheap drinks and good music. It usually gets really packed so is always good to be there a bit earlier to get ahead of the massive queue. However, if you plan ahead, you can book tickets online and just skipped the hassle of waiting outside (usually in the rain).

Fridays are well Fridays, pretty much any club or pub will be packed and be a night for the books. No matter what your vibe is you will find a place. Whether it is a chill pub night with your mates or a wild night out. Garage is open all night with three rooms open to stay at full capacity. Cathouse will be a hit or miss for some depending on your scene but even the standard night-out enjoyer will have a good time.

Saturday the crowing jewel of the week. All pubs, clubs and bars are open till 3-4a.m, deals everywhere to get cheap drinks. Live music going on at different places, and the best of it, Sunday comes after. A perfect day to relax, and get ready for the coming week.
