Premier League: 3 Things We Learned As United Embarrassed
This weekend saw plenty of goals and plenty of hat tricks from players up and down the league. The
North West derby was in full swing again and promised to be another exciting week in the Premier League.
Liverpool on fire as Ole pressure continues (Man Utd 0 Liverpool 5)
Liverpool continue their scintillating form this season. Egyptian star Mo Salah was a thorn in United’s side, netting a hattrick at Old Trafford. Salah will now look to continue his excellent side and drive Liverpool to another title. Currently they remain a point behind Chelsea in the table. This is the second week in a row where Liverpool have scored five goals without reply and there are no signs of them slowing down this season.
Man United fans will begin to think that the writing is on the wall for Ole Gunnar Solskjær after he slumps to another embarrassing defeat, this, however, seems to be the lowest of the low after being destroyed by five goals to their biggest rivals. The questions will remain for Ole whether he still has the backing of the board and whether he can turn this horrible form and revitalise them.
The game was one way traffic from the first kick, with Liverpool’s defenders never being challenged. United began to lose their heads with many reckless challenges, which lead to half-time substitute Paul Pogba being sent off just 15 minutes after coming on. There seems to be a lack of communication at the back for United, and was evident as soon as the first goal went in.
Everton scarred by former toffee (Everton 2 Watford 5)
Watford got their season back on track this weekend, and can take plenty of positives from a strong
finish which ultimately won them the game, with Josh King back amongst the goals as well it can be
a new breath of fresh air in the Hornets campaign and the Norwegian will be full of confidence after bagging a hat trick in his side’s win.
Everton will certainly be concerned by how easy it was for Watford to cut through them and despite
leading late on, they conceded far too many easy chances and Watford duly punished them and the
fans were left displeased with Rafa Benitez after Anthony Gordon was controversially subbed off.
Everton were looking good for brief moments of this game, but much like Manchester United, there
seemed to be miscommunication between the whole back line, with Josh King almost in shock by
how much space he was left in to bag three.
Norwich remain winless as Chelsea win in style (Chelsea 7 Norwich 0)
Chelsea remain top of the table and look to be in a very competitive title race this season with a well organised back five and and a solid youth system. They look the real deal this season and fully merit their spot at the top. Mason Mount got his goal tally up and running with a well taken hat trick that will only benefit his season going on now.
Norwich remain routed to the bottom of the table without a single win to their name and with no fight or game plan, the jury will be out on Daniel Farke as to whether he’s capable to keep them up, but the players seem to lack the necessary ability to compete at a high level and they look to be set to go straight back down unless they can form some sort of plan and try and pick up some wins to get back to where they want to be. It was one-sided all game, there is no surprise with the score line of 7-0, and with fantastic finishing from Mount and James (both academy players ) it will please all Chelsea fans alike, but poor Norwich defending does not paint the whole picture to what was a compete performance from the blues.
