The Effective and Clean Transport of the Future
Kyle O’Hara speaks to Ian Campbell from Oban, Scotland and Sarah Summerville from Melbourne, Australia about clean transport for the ‘100 Voices: Home and Away’ project.
Home- Ian Campbell, 32, Oban, Scotland
Ian Campbell is an HGV truck driver who regularly commutes across Scotland as part of his job and is aware of his effect on the environment.
He explains: “I know that my job is potentially harmful to the environment but it’s my lifeline. I agree that we should be reducing carbon emissions but it needs to be done in a way that can support long-term employment in a job like mine.”
Away- Sarah Summerville, 25, Melbourne, Australia
Sarah Summerville is a climate volunteer and activist assisting groups such as Greenpeace Australia.
On the topic of cleaner transport, she says: “There needs to be a much stronger push for the use of cleaner and sustainable transport. This includes the use of electric cars, public transport and simply walking.
She continues: “Cars are some of the worst offenders when it comes to pollution and have to be the top issue when discussing climate change.”
