Premier League: 3 key moments as rivals clash

This weekend saw the last round of Premier League fixtures before players jet off for international duty.

Plenty more drama and more title rivals clashing and underdogs continue to impress once again.

THRILLER AT ANFIELD AS CITY AND LIVERPOOL SHARE A POINT

The late Sunday afternoon fixture saw rivals Liverpool and Manchester City clash at Anfield. After a slow first half, plenty of goals in the second half made it one of the games of the season so far.

Mo Salah once again showed why he is recognised as one of the best players in the world. His well timed assist for Sadio Mane and a fantastic solo goal saw Liverpool go ahead twice.

Phil Foden ran the show for the citizens and displayed this after a well timed finish which saw him tie the game at 1-1. He ran Liverpool’s midfield ragged all afternoon and after a deflected De Bruyne strike off Joel Matip, both teams go home with a share of the points.

UNITED SLUMP AGAINST TOFFEES

After a late defeat last weekend at home to Aston Villa, Manchester United were looking to get back to winning ways as soon as possible, but came up against an inform Everton side who dug in and fought well for a point.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær surprised United fans by benching Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial was given a start and took his chance after a fantastic strike saw him and his team go 1-0 up at half-time.

United huffed and puffed for a second goal, and paid the ultimate price after a fast counter from Everton saw them level the game with Andros Townsend finishing the move off with a brilliantly driven shot to continue Everton’s impressive run and to continue United’s recent slump at home.

BRENTFORD CONTINUE TO IMPRESS WITH LATE WIN

Brentford went into this game on a high after an impressive 3-3 draw against Liverpool last weekend. They came up against West Ham at a good time, with the hammers having less rest after their Thursday night Europa League fixture

Brentford spurned many chances and it took a rebounded effort from Bryan Mbuemo for the bees to take a first half lead on the 20th minute.

Brentford remained resolute for the majority of the game and tried to hold on for the rest of the game, but their efforts seemed to be in vein after a late Jarrod Bowen goal saw West Ham level the contest, with the hammers thinking they will get away with a point.

Brentford pushed for a late winner, and in the 94th minute, Yoanne Wissa stole all three points for the bees and continued their fantastic run in the Premier League which sees them sit 7th going into the international break.
