Premier League: Three Things we Learned as Spurs Sack Nuno

This weekend saw many questions needing answered after last weekend’s fixtures and there were plenty more moments from this match week that turned a lot of people’s luck and some who still can’t catch a break.

Chelsea go three clear as Newcastle remain winless (Newcastle United 0 Chelsea 3)

Chelsea are now three points clear after their win this weekend, and the manager can be full of praise for his players with the blues yet again showing resilience at the back and full of drive in their forward runs. Two goals from Reece James helped continue the fine form of him and his wing-back partner Ben Chilwell. Chelsea fully deserve their win and continue to look dangerously good in their pursuit of the title.

Newcastle still remain winless and in the relegation zone this season, and after another uninspiring performance from the team, the club will just be looking to stay in the Premier League this season before looking to become a real force under their new owners. Still manager-less, they will look to make an appointment to help them stay in the division and start getting wins as soon as possible. Chelsea put on a five star display in their 3-0 win, with plenty of attacking intent despite playing a back five and came out victors with three sublime goals.

Palace pull of shock win in Manchester (Man City 0 Palace 2)

Crystal Palace on Saturday played a resilient game of football, with plenty of moments having to soak up the pressure from Manchester City, but they dug in and held on to win. Connor Gallagher looked like he could run all day and was crucial to the win, scoring the goal to seal the game. Crystal Palace look like they finally have their groove with Patrick Vieira and look to be in for another solid season and stay in the division.

Manchester City fall further away from table toppers Chelsea in the title race, and must be stronger if they are to get back in the fight. They were undone in the game by the red card shown to Laporte after he pulled down Zaha who was about to be one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Despite pushing and pushing, they could not find the finishing touch against a well organised Palace and know they need to step up their performance when they play their next league game- the Manchester Derby.

Crystal Palace put on a brave display against the champions on Saturday, they took the lead early on and stayed strong to hold on before eventually sealing the win late on.

United win the final nail for Nuno (Spurs 0 Man Utd 3)

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lives to fight another day as a change in formation helped United bounce back after their humiliation against rivals Liverpool last week. United were committed and determined with three sublime goals from Ronaldo, Cavani and Rashford enough to earn them all the points.

The same cannot he said for Spurs, as they were pulled apart and showed no fight in a spineless performance. The fans were infuriated by the tactics of their manager and started chanting “you don’t know what you’re doing” towards the Portuguese manager. Spurs continue to fall away from their top four rivals and fans worry whether what’s in store for the rest of the season.

News broke on Monday morning that Spurs will be parting ways with the former Wolves and Porto boss, with media outlets suggesting they are in advanced talks with Italian manager, Antonio Conte.

Could the experience of Antonio Conte help an underperforming Tottenham team reverse their fortunes this season?
