As the United Nations Conference of Parties (COP26) gets underway in Glasgow, many groups are campaigning for climate justice. One of the groups to do this is the Scottish Socialist Party who were found campaigning on Argyle Street outside St Enoch’s Centre.

The Scottish Socialist Party were founded in 1998 and currently do not have any seats in Holyrood. One of their most notable members is actress Tilda Swinton, known for her role as The Ancient One on Marvel’s Doctor Strange. The party are campaigning for “socialist change, not climate change”.

A member of the party who wished to remain anonymous said: “The Scottish Socialist Party is campaigning for the solution to pollution while also tackling poverty and inequality as those things go hand in hand.”

“The main 100 big companies we know of such as Amazon and BP have been responsible for 71% of pollution since 1988.

Those politicians and big business owners gathered at COP26 have created the pollution, they are not going to create the solution.”

The Scottish Socialist Party aims to gain free public transport in an expanded, integrated and publicly owned network of buses, trains, ferries, subways and trams; democratic planning and land reform to incentivise local food production reducing unsustainable animal farming and re-wilding land not suited to agriculture; 100,000 new council houses built to the highest environmental standard for public rental and redistribution of wealth in Scotland.
