Climate change visibly affects Nepal’s landscape, despite being one of the world’s least polluting countries.

Prakash Lama, 24, a climate activist, said: “Being from Nepal, a land locked and mountainous country, we are literally suffering from a lot of pollution.

“The air quality in Nepal is not good. My village is near to the mountainous area, and whenever I go to the village, I only see the black mountains instead of the white snow.

“I feel that my honour and gratitude of Nepal having highest Mount Everest is being (affected) by climate change.”

Closer to home, peat bogs will play a central part in Scotland meeting its climate change targets.

“Peatlands contain huge amounts of carbon… so the reason it’s important is because climate change is largely caused by carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. When carbon is locked up underground in the soils, that’s not then in the atmosphere.

“We’re in the last chance saloon of hitting the Paris targets. That will be out of our grasp if we don’t take radical action now. I mean now. This year and next year. Not just this decade. This is the decade for action.”
