The Tension is on and Everyone's a Suspect- Netflix's 'Clickbait' Review

The eight-episode Netflix exclusive ‘Clickbait’ (directed by Brad Anderson) dropped on the 25th of August as a limited series. Starring Adrian Grenier (Nick Brewer), Zoe Kazan (Pia Brewer), Phoenix Raei (Roshan Amiri) and Betty Gabriel (Sophie Brewer), this thriller is worth the binge.

‘Clickbait’ follows the mystery of the disappearance of Nick Brewer. After a video surfaces of Nick allegedly confessing to abusing women and also murdering one, the video promises that at five million views he will die.

Tensions rise as the hunt for Nick and his kidnapper(s) is on; everyone is a suspect. Viewers follow the story of catfishing, lies and murder as it unfolds with several unexpected twists that will keep you glued to your seat.

The acting is on point for this series, showing shock, grief, anxiety, anger, and pure moments of a family coming together to work through a tragedy. The whole cast makes the show very believable and enticing with the acting drawing in viewers with scenes so emotional that you feel like you are a part of the investigation.

Heartbreak and grief are very prominent in this show. The cinematography is spot on for amplifying these emotions through the dark lighting and dramatic cut to black at the end of an episode after a shocking revelation. The timing and style of the music build suspense and will have you biting your nails in worry of what will happen next, loudening to the point it’s all you hear as a chase takes place.

Certain camera angles are used to create fear, panning up from the floor to give the effect that something is crawling up behind a character.

The pacing in general was good. Some episodes felt as though they dragged but the action-packed ones made up for that.

Overall, I would rate this 4/5 stars. Reaching the number one show on Netflix shortly after its release, it’s worth the watch.
