Hungary vs Scotland Women's World Cup qualifier

The Scotland women’s national team are set to meet Hungary at the Hidegkuti Nándor Stadiumin Budapest on Friday in their World Cup qualifier. The game marks Pedro Martínez Losa’s first game as Scotland head coach. The former Arsenal and Bordeaux manager was announced as Shelley Kerr's successor in July. After failing to qualify for Euro 22, Scotland are hopeful that they can make it to back-to-back World Cups .

Scotland will come into the game in good form with three wins in their previous five games. Whoever wins the group will immediately qualify for the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The runners-up will participate in play-off matches to establish the two remaining direct spots, as well as one place at a further inter-confederations play-off. Scotland’s group features Hungary, Ukraine, Spain, and the Faroe Islands.

Since Scotland veteran Kim Little announced her retirement from international duty and Fiona Brown and Christie Murray suffered injuries, Martínez Losa appears to have his hands full in his first game as Scotland head coach.

Kansas City forward, Rachel Corsie, has been named as Scotland’s captain for the campaign.

Jane Ross has been recalled in the wake of her summer signing with Rangers and will be contending for a place in the starting line-up, in conjunction with AC Milan’s Christy Grimshaw who will be striving to gain her first competitive cap.

Caroline Weir will join the squad after competing in the Olympics for Team GB and Lana Clelland will be seeking her first competitive appearance for Scotland since the World Cup campaign in 2019.
