"No one can bother him enough to make him stop" - Lil Nas X 'Montero' Review
Ever since ‘Old Town Road’ was released back in 2019, Lil Nas X has become a constant presence in the music charts. In fact, his presence became so familiar that we sometimes forget the kind of prodigy that he is.
Lil Nas X is often seen as a controversial figure and, even though he is constantly heavily criticised, no one can bother him enough to make him stop.
Ever since he came out as gay in 2019, Nas has received tons of homophobic backlash that’s increased by racism. He went through all the hate, always unapologetic, and became this class artist and super self-confident personality.
His debut album, ‘Montero’, is the result of all these experiences combined. It will surely speak to all the people who may feel isolated due to their sexuality, culture or any other kind of aspect in their personality.
But what message is Lil Nas X trying to get us to understand through this beautiful album?
“I wanted to do use these things that I have been around for so long to tell my own story and the story of so many other people in this community,” he told Times Magazine back in March this year. “This album is for everyone, but especially to people who have been outcast in general through history.”
There were two stand out tracks for me on the album. ‘That’s what I want’ is one of the songs that caught my attention the first time I heard it. It’s got the feeling of an early 90s alt rock station and it’s a song that can quickly change your mood. The track ‘Void has the same feeling, and it’s like a timeless gift for the world.
This album has been a pleasant surprise, and you can clearly tell his improvement ever since he debuted in 2019. ‘Montero’ is entirely enjoyable, and the tunes and melody are quite euphonious.
