Premier League: Who Will go Down?
With high levels of inconsistency and games constantly being postponed, it is tight at the bottom of the table and much like any other season, it looks to be an interesting fight between four clubs for relegation, with only one able to survive.
Burnley
Burnley have been a solid outfit since returning to the Premier League in 2016. However, they have been hit hard by Covid-19 this season, leading to postponed fixtures and a thin squad. The coming months will prove to be a real test of character for Sean Dyche’s and his team to see if they can stay up. With the team currently rooted to the bottom of the table and with teams around them starting to pick up wins here and there, this season could finally spell the end for Burnley’s reign in the premier league for nearly six years.
Watford
With Watford now into their third manager this season, with the latest one Claudio Ranieri only picking up two wins during his reign. The Hornets are notorious for sacking managers mid-season and in their first season back in the league, it seems to be the same process once again.
Roy Hodgson, who previously managed Crystal Palace, is the man who has been put in charge. It will be an uphill battle for Watford, as they now look to change their style of play yet again in their bid to stay up and not go straight back down again.
Norwich
Norwich would’ve been a lot of peoples favourite to go back down this season, but as of recent, they have put themselves in a strong position to fight for survival, Dean Smith has done a good job at steadying the ship and has his side looking ready for the fights ahead.
After a very poor start which saw previous manager Daniel Farke lose his job, a lack of January business from Norwich may come back to haunt them, especially with the majority of the clubs around them strengthening, they do now seem to find themselves in a decent position, proving some doubters wrong and are ready for the fight ahead.
Newcastle
With the riches of their new owners, Newcastle have wasted no time in the transfer market in the hope to stay in the division this season. The signing of Chris Wood from Burnley came to a surprise for a lot of people, but it can be seen as a smart transfer, as it weakens one of their relegation candidates but strengthens them. They are still severely weak at the back and the failure to sign Sevilla Centre Back Diego Carlos could be costly. Eddie Howe, is a good tactician capable of creating a solid foundation, as proof of why he was successful at Bournemouth and why he was Celtic’s first choice last summer. Newcastle are the favourites amongst these teams to stay up with the high level of financial backing and a good coach.
