Premier League: Three things we learned as Arsenal retain top spot

Man City win in dominating fashion against Southampton as they chase Arsenal at the summit

Pep Guardiola’s side scored four as the Saints were crushed by the pressure of City’s attacks.

The opening goal was scored in the 20th minute after a great solo run from Cancelo. Foden doubled their lead shortly after the half-hour mark as the hosts went into the break comfortably ahead. Mahrez tripled their advantage four minutes after the interval and the final nail was screwed in the coffin by the inevitable Haaland in the 65th minute.

This result leaves the Citizens trailing Arsenal by one point heading into match week 11 where they will play their league challengers from last season, Liverpool.

Arsenal maintain their great form with a fantastic result against the Reds

The Gunners went tit for tat with Jurgen Klopp’s side in an exhilarating match.

Mikel Arteta’s side started the game with a bang as Martinelli opened the scoring in the first minute.  Nunez equalised for the Mersey club in the 34th minute, but a goal from Saka just before the half-time whistle saw Arsenal go down the tunnel with a one goal advantage.

After the break, the game remained intense, a goal from Firmino in the 53rd minute further increased the anxiety in the Emirates, but the nerves were settled, even if only for a few minutes, as a Saka penalty got the home side over the line.

Arsenal remain league leaders and will hope it stays that way after they face Leeds next weekend.

Liverpool continue their poor run of form in tenth position and with their match against Man City next week to look forward to, things aren’t looking upwards.

Man United bounce back with a win against the Toffees

The Red Devils are back to winning ways after their embarrassing defeat to their Manchester rivals last weekend.

The visitors got off to a shaky start as Iwobi scored an immense shot from outside the box which left them trailing in the fifth minute. United showed that they would not be downing tools, like they would have most games last season, as they responded with a quick counter-attack and goal from Antony just ten minutes after. Ronaldo responded to his critics as he scored his first league goal of the season before the break.

Erik ten Haag’s side looked resilient as they played their football away from home. They find themselves in fifth ahead of their match against the Magpies on Sunday.

Everton are set to travel to London to face third placed Tottenham and with so little points between the other teams in the league, they need to try and find a result against them.
