Lucas Blakeley: Boy from Broomlands to McLaren’s machine
Lucas Blakeley is a racing enthusiast who’s been captivated with motorsport throughout his whole life. From watching F1 each season at a young age, to even taking the wheel himself as he spent his early years as a junior kart racer. This obsession is what has kicked off and fuelled his success, which is why he is currently one of the most impressive talents the field of F1 Esports currently has to offer.
Lucas has worked tremendously hard to be in the position he is in now. And over the last three years and two months, he managed to showcase his talent and skill, which was at a high enough calibre to be snatched up by the well-known team McLaren. Allowing him to go full-time as an Esports driver with a team in full belief that Lucas is their next stepping stone to success.
He mentioned: “I used to reflect almost too much, but now I’m thinking less and less about what’s happened (with his early success) and I’m more focused on staying successful in this industry.”
Lucas humbly acknowledges his success and will never forget where he started but is truly determined to sustain and overcome his achievements. He knows that you can fall just as quickly as you can rise in the Esports racing world. However, with total assurance that he has the ability to be the fastest out there. He knows how much work is still required to achieve his own targets, especially with such a promising start to the current, ongoing season.
Following his achievements of finishing top of the pack after the first full race day of the F1 Esports Series Pro Championship (FESPC) Lucas knows that although he’s achieved this being a surprise package. He’ll be well aware the pressure is mounting for him to continue on this form and not let the levels drop.
He said: “That’s why I’m putting in as much time as I do… people would be shocked about how little I’m taking that for granted, I’m in fear of failure. I don’t see the point in winning early on for it then to disappear into nothing.”
By setting the bar so high for himself at the start of the FESPC he has, in his mindset, made the season even more strenuous and difficult as he openly admits that he is a ‘perfectionist.’
His training regiment is often a laborious uphill battle as he constantly strives to master his craft. Pinpointing any errors he finds in practice laps and rerunning the issue at hand again and again until he’s shaved off as much time as he feels he can.
“It’s never good enough for me. If I’m not happy with something, then I will continue to try and try and try to resolve it. That’s ultimately why I am where I am.” To be this persistent with yourself day in day out shows what a great character Lucas has.
The conviction he shows in his own ability is enough to back him to be the next big thing. As he managed to get such a tenacious win early in the FESPC, all eyes are on the self-assured Lucas Blakeley. The boy who grew up in a small town in Scotland to be on the worldwide stage in the industry he fell in love with all those years ago.
He is certainly one to watch as he says: “The thing that motivates me is the feeling of winning. It’s the best thing ever.”
