Through her music, we can gather an in-depth inside into Barrett's turbulent world. How she communicates her struggles with her own well-being and mental health, the 20-year-old pop star definitely knows how to convey her emotions through her songs and help us truly capture them.

Barrett was born in Township, New Jersey and has expressed she always had a burning passion for all things music. In 2019, Barrett joined the social media app 'TikTok' where she began building a platform lip-syncing to songs and occasionally posting covers of other artists. Since then, she has racked up a whopping 18.8 million followers and still continues to post her lip-syncing videos, even to her own music.

The singer began her music journey in July of 2020 when she wrote and released her hit debut single 'Pain'. The single was released shortly after signing with Warner Records after the label discovered videos of her singing on TikTok.

She continued to release more singles, and then in September 2021, she released her first album 'pretty poison' featuring her hit single 'I hope ur miserable until ur dead' alongside six new songs the artist wrote.

However, Barrett’s career in the media hasn't always been smooth sailing after she received hate from online trolls.

She said: "All the hate got overwhelming, I had to spend time away from reading comments, watching hate videos on me. It really took a toll on me, I just wanted to better myself by excluding social media."

This hate definitely created a hurdle for Barrett’s music career, reputation and even took a toll on her mental health which she has always been very open about on her platform.

The singer opened up on social media about her declining mental health and her diagnosis of bipolar disorder. Barrett has recently released another single called 'madhouse' and revealed on social media that she was recently admitted into a psychiatric ward following a drastic decline in her mental well-being. Following the death of her best friend, Cooper Noriega, who took his own life after a long struggle with addiction in June 2022, she released her single 'die first' dedicating the song to Noriega and posted countless tributes to him on her Instagram.

The social media influencer come pop star is surely an icon for people struggling with mental health and provides them with material to relate to, it also sure helps that the material is as good as Barrett's music. If you still haven't had a listen, it is a must for all audiences, able to relate or not. Her music really captivates any listener.

It seems the newfound punk rock singer & songwriter's career is off to a promising beginning, with over seven million monthly listeners on Spotify and her ever-growing audience following her journey to becoming the next big superstar.
