Scottish Cup: Third Round Draw

The Scottish Cup third-round draw is now set for what promises to be an exciting round.

With all Championship and League One teams in the frame, here are some games you should check out.

WICK ACADEMY VS FALKIRK

A 512-mile round trip awaits the Bairns in the third round as they face Highland League side Wick Academy. It’s been a huge fall from grace for Falkirk over the last decade, from the highest tier of Scottish football to fighting it out in League One. However, with the reliable choice of John McGlynn now at the helm, it could be the start of a new era for the club. It’s not the first time the two sides have met; the previous meeting dates back to 1995 in a friendly where Falkirk comfortably won 3-0. With the Highland side sitting 13th in their respective league, the visitors should be able to go there comfortably and avoid a cup upset.

HAMILTON ACADEMICAL VS EAST KILBRIDE

It’s a South Lanarkshire derby in the next round as East Kilbride travel to New Douglas Park. The Kilby are having a successful season in the Lowland League, they sit five points behind Rangers B in second. After comfortably defeating Caledonian Braves in the previous round 5-0, East Kilbride should fancy their chances against the Accies who have had a horrid time in the Championship this season. It hasn’t been the greatest of starts for newly-appointed boss John Rankin whose side sit bottom after 12 games. Despite this, Hamilton will hope their team can return to winning ways and go through to the fourth round.

OPEN GOAL BROOMHILL VS ALLOA ATHLETIC

From media sensation to coaching on the sidelines, it’s been a whirlwind couple of months for Simon Ferry as he became manager of Lowland League side Open Goal Broomhill. With the podcast show Open Goal, hosted by Ferry, taking over Broomhill FC in May, many quickly criticised Broomhill for how it would affect the club. So far, Open Goal has proved the doubters wrong after a promising start to the league, where they sit third. Having defeated Buckie Thistle in the previous round, Open Goal will look to continue their successful start as they host Brian Rice’s Alloa. The Wasps currently sit outside the playoff spots in League One as they try to climb back up to the Championship. Despite reaching the fourth round last season, Alloa were knocked out of the cup by Celtic after a 2-1 loss at home. Having a large fanbase from the podcast, Open Goal will be hoping their high run of attendance at home can spur them onto victory.

Ties to be played: 26/27 November 2022
