Premier League Review
Arsenal demolish Nottingham Forest to stay top of the league
Arsenal showed the difference in quality between them and the bottom of the league in a five-goal thriller.
Arteta’s side were dominant from the off as Martinelli scored the opening goal in the fifth minute. Although they were well in the driving seat, they weren't as clinical as they should have been in the first-half. However, the Gunners picked up the tempo in the second-half as they smashed four past Cooper’s men.
The Emirates side will be thrilled with the result, but will be left hoping that Saka’s injury will not be too serious as he has been a crucial part of their fantastic form. They face Chelsea in the London derby next Sunday.
Forest were dismantled, not for the first time this season, as they find themselves firmly at the bottom of the table ahead of their meeting against Brentford next Saturday.
City scrape a win against Leicester
Guardiola’s side managed to dig in and grind out all three points, which is not usually their style as they are used to dominating their opponent.
City were on the front foot in the first-half, but could not capitalise on their chances as the Foxes’ showed their resilience to hold them to a deadlock going down the tunnel.
The visitors came out in the second hand with a higher tempo of play as they looked to take the lead. A wonderful De Bruyne free-kick in the 49th minute was the deciding factor in the match.
Haaland was desperately missed as the Premier League’s top goal-scorer was absent due to an ankle injury.
The result, courtesy of Arsenal’s victory, means they finished the weekend second. They head back to the Etihad to face Fulham on Saturday.
Rodgers’ side return to the relegation zone just as they were getting back on track. They travel to Goodison Park to face Everton on Saturday, where a win would leave them level on points with the Toffees.
Liverpool fumble more points as they lose to Leeds
Klopp’s side were once again looking for redemption after their defeat at the hands of Forest at the weekend, but sunk even lower after the result against Leeds.
Marsch’s side got off to a tremendous start as Rodrigo capatalised on a Gomez mistake in the fourth minute. Salah responded on behalf of Liverpool in the 14th minute as they looked to take control of the game. Although, Liverpool had the majority of the possession, Leeds continued to take advantage of Liverpool’s defensive weaknesses and eventually stunned the Reds with a goal from Summerfield just a minute before stoppage time.
Liverpool drop to ninth place in the league as their dismal Premier League campaign continues. They will have to pick themselves back up and try to redeem themselves against Tottenham Hotspur at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Leeds pulled off a great win after three straight defeats and will go into their game against Bournemouth with a far more positive approach.
