Celtic look to get back to winning ways: Celtic Women vs Dundee United Women

After a Glasgow Derby draw away to city rivals Rangers, Fran Alonso’s Celtic side will be hoping to get back to winning ways as they welcome Dundee United to the Excelsior Stadium.

The last time Celtic and Dundee United faced one another, it was a dominant display from the Hoops as they came out on top with an amazing 4-0 victory. The Ghirls in green will be hoping to replicate that performance in Airdrie on Sunday. When speaking ahead of the match, Alonso praised the fans’ involvement in helping the team push on : “When there are big crowds the girls feel passionate and brave. For me, the crowd is key.”

With women’s football evolving, it is important the Celtic support make the effort to attend each game as the girls need all the backing they can get in their title push.

Ireland international Claire O’Riordan has similar thoughts to her manger and believes the unity among the players and fans is crucial in their bid to get three points. O’Riordan said: “You can see the engagement between the fans, players and staff. It’s a great unity we all have, all working together towards a goal to be a successful team on matchday.”

One player who will be missing for the hosts is Lucy Ashworth-Clifford after she unfortunately suffered an ACL injury in the match against Rangers. She will now be out of action for several months and receives best wishes from her manager and team mates.

Alonso has confirmed that other than Ashworth-Clifford, the rest of the team are all fit for the game this weekend and have trained well in the preparation.

Celtic are third in the league and are currently sitting three points behind league leaders, Glasgow City. They remain confident in shortening the gap and challenging for the title meaning every game from now on is a must win.

It will be an entertaining game for all attending with some festive activities planned for families and the players will look to make it a day to remember by bringing home the three points.
