Premier League: Three Key Moments
Now entering the business end of the season, the Premier League is heating up at both ends of the table, a title race is still well in the balance and teams are continuing to fight for their lives in the hunt for survival.
Palace Frustrate City to cut gap at top (Palace- 0 Man City -0)
It’s starting to get tasty at the top of the Premier League table. Manchester City’s gap in now down to four points with their title rivals Liverpool having played a game less. Crystal Palace have proved to be a boggy team for Pep Guardiola, with the eagles going undefeated against them in the league season. Their fate still remains in their hands, especially with the visit of Liverpool still to come.
Crystal Palace continue to defy the odds this season. Many media outlets and fans alike had the eagles being one of their favourites for relegation, but Patrick Vieira’s side currently sitting in 11th with 34 points, with no real risk of relegation.
Manchester City were unsurprisingly dominant throughout the match, they had chance after chance, hitting the post at one stage. Off nights for the likes of Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden, it certainly came to Palace’s aid, who also had chances they will feel they should’ve taken as well.
Liverpool Gain Crucial Win to Keep the Pressure on (Brighton- 0 Liverpool -2)
Liverpool did what they had to do, they dug in and got the three points. The hunt for a famous quadruple is still on for Jurgen Klopp’s side, especially with the recent progression to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. They certainly are well up for the fight and with new forward Luis Diaz lighting up the already blistering frontline, it’ll be interesting if they will win anymore trophies to the one they already have.
Brighton, albeit in no real threat of a relegation fight, may start to be a little concerned over their recent form, with this now being their fifth defeat in a row. Poor decision making in the final third continues to be their downfall and if they want to push on this season and finish as high as possible they will need to pick up form fast.
It was a routine win for Liverpool, goals from Luis Diaz and Mohammed Salah was enough to see them get all three points. Brighton posed a small threat, but the reds remained calm and did what they had to do to get those crucial three points ahead of a massive game against an inform Arsenal side.
Late Drama as Leeds Defeat Norwich (Leeds- 2 Norwich -1)
It’s been such a rollercoaster season for Leeds United. They were forced to say goodbye to Marcelo Bielsa and have him replaced with Jesse Marsch. The American coach saw out his first win in what could end up being a priceless win in the hunt to stay in the top flight. They know themselves the massive task ahead to make sure they don’t go down and remain a Premier League side for another season.
It’s more doom and gloom for Norwich City. They look set for another relegation right after getting promoted for the second time. Routed to the bottom and far off 17th , to see them stay up would be a massive shock to all and would be seen as one of the great escapes.
Two goals in stoppage time is what decided the outcome. Norwich thought they escaped with a point after Kenny McLean drew his side level, not before youngster Gelhardt slotted home a well worked move to get his side a much needed three points in this relegation scrap.
