Five Things to Make Your Bedroom Cosier
Spring cleaning season is coming up, and everyone is all about ‘out with the old and in with the new,’ so it’s the perfect time to change up your bedroom!
Your room should be your safe space, a place of relaxation where you end your day and start your day, so it is important to feel comfortable in it and put the money and effort into making it yours.
1. Plants
Whether they are fake or real, plants add a hint of nature and greenery to your room. Fake ones are often cheaper than real ones and can be placed more freely, such as on a bookcase or a darker corner of your room. Real ones are a bit fussier, requiring watering, feeding and certain light and heat placement depending on the plant.
However, real plants have certain health benefits too, such as improving productivity. You can find out more about the health benefits of house plants in my other article here. Many supermarkets stock both real and fake plants, but if you want a wider selection of real ones then Dobbies, B&Q and Ikea are good places to look.
2. Candles
Candles, oil burners, tealights and incense sticks are lovely staples for a cosy bedroom. Dot a few tealight holders and decorative oil burners around your room and you get that homey feeling. Or, if you prefer them for the scent over the aesthetic, then bigger candles or incense sticks are great for a more powerful smell.
There is such a wide variety of scents for all these options, some of the best ones for a cosy room include lavender, vanilla, marshmallow, and wild jasmine - of course, everyone has their own preferences. You can find tealights, oil burners and candles for a decent price at your local supermarket, or if you want to splash out then Yankee Candles have a vast selection to choose from. As for incense sticks, you can find these online at Amazon or in many holistic and natural healing shops.
3. Fairy Lights and Lighting
A little bit of lighting can go a long way when decorating your bedroom. From fairy lights to LEDs there is a style of lighting for every room. To get the ‘cosy’ look, go for warmer lighting. You can find lots of string, battery operated fairy lights in supermarkets such as Asda and Tesco, or in Flying Tiger. Battery operated lights are a good option for hanging over furniture or mirrors if there’s no plug within reach. Plug-in lights have the obvious bonus of never needing new batteries and can give off a stronger light. Gold fairy lights paired with fake ivy is one idea for changing up your room, or even salt rock lamps give off a nice glow.
4. Blankets and Cushions
The centrepiece of most bedrooms is, of course, the bed. It’s where you sleep, where you go to relax, so it’s important that you make it comfortable. Adding a bit of décor to the room is a bonus, as
cushions and blankets bring both comfort and aesthetics. Having your bedding match with your cushion covers and blankets gives your bed a clean, organised look. For example, if you have bee themed bedding, pair it with yellow cushions and bee themed blanket. Ikea, Asda and Matalan are wonderful places to look for new and unique bedding.
5. Photo Wall
A photo wall is a very individualized touch for your most personal space. If you like the minimalist look, keeping your walls lightly coloured will help bring out the cosy theme to your room, or if you are indecisive, keep them neutral and light (such as cream, white or light grey) so that your décor will never clash. However, if you prefer a bit more going on in your room, then a featured photo wall is a great option. With sites such as Free Prints that give you 45 free printed photos a month, the only charge being postage, then it’s an easy decision. No hassle involved, choose photos of your favourite shows, favourite movie posters or ones of your friends and with a few clicks, they’ll be delivered to your house.
And with that, happy decorating!
