Glasgow Warriors: International Experience Needed to Improve

There is no doubt about it. The Warriors have had a mixed season and it is in the minds of the fans that they can do better. With the Six Nations over and done with and six Glasgow Warriors players, playing for Scotland during the competition, it is time for the Warriors to draw on that international experience for the next season.

Head Coach Wilson told glasgowwarriors.org: “We won four of our five matches during the Six Nations window, so now we have our full squad back together we’ll be looking to kick on into the business end of the season”. That is all good and well, but many fans feel that this season is over for the Warriors and they must strive to improve for next season using the international experience the six players have gained is a good start.

Although the 32-28 loss to Cardiff was not a great start, the team must take into consideration that it takes time for the team to adapt and make use of a experience, also the fact that Cardiff have only lost one game at home this season.

Warriors Head coach quoted: “Cardiff is a team with a strong home record. They’ve only lost once at home all season, including a good win against Leinster.” So, although the Warriors lost by four points on a return to having a full squad and with not enough time to gel was quite a good result against a team that has only lost at home once.

With an all-new front-row sees Fraser Brown and Zander Fagerson return from Scotland duty, with Richie Gray and Scott Cummings in the second-row, Rory Darge in the back row, and Ali Price at scrum-half. The team can hopefully go forward next season, after second- row Kiran McDonald transferring to the Wasps next season, the Warriors have brought in Tongan international and Back Row player Sione Vailanu from English Premiership side Worcester Warriors.

Sione Vailanu said: “Glasgow has a rich tradition of success and with Danny Wilson as Head Coach and the players that we currently have, I have no doubts that tradition will continue next season and beyond. I cannot wait to get started and meet our fans at Scotstoun”. They may not be ready for the bigger giants at the top of the table and the teams from Europe, but they are definitely on their way with these Six Players making waves during the Six Nations. They should go forward next season if only with small steps and tiny increments.
