Glasgow Women and Girls Promoted to SWPL1

Glasgow Girls and Women FC have now officially been promoted to the SWPL1 in the wake of their 3-1 victory over Boroughmuir Thistle.

The two teams were neck and neck throughout the tail end of the season and the decision of who would join league champions Dundee United in the reformed SWPL1 only came to a head on the last day of the season.

The new league ran by the SPFL will feature Glasgow Women and Girls, Dundee United, Hamilton Academical, Motherwell, Heart of Midlothian, Spartans, Hibernian, Celtic, Rangers, Glasgow City, Partick Thistle and Aberdeen.

Glasgow Girls and Women will become the fifth Glasgow team in the SWPL1 next season alongside Glasgow City, Celtic, Rangers and Partick Thistle.

Goals for Glasgow Women came from Lucy Ronald, Mhairi Lyle and a penalty by Kaitlyn Canavan, while Novoa Torrente scored for Boroughmuir Thistle.
