Rangers Crowned SWPL Champions
Rangers women were crowned SWPL champions for the first time ever after a 0-0 draw saw 14 in a row holders Glasgow City confirmed to finish second.
Auchenhowie was sold out on Sunday as supporters from both sides of Glasgow gathered to see if history would be made. Rangers only needed a draw to claim the title Glasgow City battled to hold for over a decade as the Govan side narrowly missed out last season after a couple of bad results towards the end of the season saw Rangers drop into third place after strongly contesting first place all season. Rangers player Brogan Hay had this to say to Rangers TV after the game:
Glasgow City seemed to fall from grace after losing their manager Scott Booth at the start of the season and when they dropped points against Rangers in February and October as well as against Celtic in September. Only eight points separated Glasgow City from Rangers as Rangers celebrated and lifted the trophy.
Now with only two games remaining in the SWPL all teams will be looking to gain as much points as they can before Dundee United and potentially Glasgow Women or Boroughmuir Thistle join the new SPFL ran SWPL next season.
The last SWPL1 games of the season include Celtic vs Rangers, Hamilton Accies vs Spartans, Hearts vs Partick Thistle, Hibs vs Glasgow City and Motherwell vs Aberdeen. The last SWPL2 games of the season are the big decision maker Boroughmuir Thistle vs Glasgow Women, Queenβs Park vs Dundee United and Stirling Uni vs Kilmarnock.
