One Kiss to Glasgow: A Scottish Homecoming for Calvin Harris- Hampden Park, Glasgow 2nd July 2022
After months of anticipation, Calvin Harris finally made his return to the stage as he performed in Glasgow at Hampden Park. His previous gig in Scotland was six years ago at T in the Park.
The upcoming show was a sell-out and fans were eager to see his comeback. There were very high expectations for his performance and Calvin Harris did not disappoint.
The DJ from Dumfries was supported by Arielle Free, Disciples and MK who were able to show their talents on such a memorable day.
MK, who is well known for his songs such as ’17’ and a remix version of ‘My Head Is A Jungle’, was the standout support act. He got the Hampden crowd roaring ahead of the main event.
With the smell of £7 pints and flares roaming, it was an indication that it was time to witness something spectacular.
As 9pm struck, Calvin Harris made his way to the stage where he was met by thunderous cheers from the fans. He opened the show with a remix of ‘Open Wide’ which got the crowd going ahead of his two-hour set.
The classics such as ‘Under Control’ and ‘One Kiss’ were played, and it was incredible. To see these songs being performed was everything to the people in attendance.
After two years of no-shows due to the Coronavirus pandemic, you could see and feel the emotion and excitement from the fans.
Some were showing tears of joy, others were in disbelief. The crowd knew they deserved this after two miserable years, and they were well and truly making the most of it.
If there’s a song that described how the fans felt towards Calvin Harris, it would be ‘Feel So Close’. The lyrics read:
“I feel so close to you right now, It’s a force field
I wear my heart upon my sleeve, like a big deal
Your love pours down on me, surround me like a waterfall
And there's no stopping us right now
I feel so close to you right now”
These five lines highlight what’s so great about Calvin Harris. His music brings out the joy in people and you feel a certain attraction toward him. His music is very comforting and has a massive impact on a lot of people’s mental health.
Near the end of the show, Calvin Harris played a crowd favourite as he performed ‘I’m Not Alone’. The song was part of his album ‘Ready For The Weekend’ which came out in 2009 and is still popular 13 years later.
Not only did he play his own songs, but he also performed remix versions of other artists’ songs. Underworld’s ‘Born Slippy’ and The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ which were well received by the crowd.
The final song of the night was upon us, and the atmosphere of the crowd was certainly not disrupted. Travelling around the stadium was ‘Freed by Desire’ which unleashed numerous mosh pits in the standing section.
Fireworks illuminated the top of Hampden Park and showcased a perfect visual for a perfect night.
“Thank you Glasgow! Stay safe and good night.”
These were the last words Calvin Harris spoke as he left the stage, proving his worth to his native fans.
As people started to walk up the steps and out of the stadium, you could sense them reflecting on how that gig was one of the greatest nights of their life and it would never be forgotten. Everyone was astonished and overwhelmed by what they had just experienced.
Calvin Harris’ comeback was well worth it, and he was able to create memories for people that will live on in their lives forever.
