GIG REVIEW: Alexandra Savior- St Lukes, Glasgow 5th September 2022
Over a year since her last reschedule, Alexandra Savior finally sated silent fans when she took to the alter of St Luke’s stage on Monday night.
Produced by Alex Turner, the second album soared in popularity between both fans and critics. Since lockdown, the growing cult following meant the original venue, King Tuts Wah Wah Hut, was upgraded for St Luke’s boastful capacity.
The beautiful stone walls retained the week's heatwave causing the first support act; American dream pop duo, Morly, to alert staff of a fainting fan. House lights were quickly called up and the teen was taken for medical support before allowing the set to continue.
Between sets, the jazz echoed around the room. A shared excitement spread creating a kinetic atmosphere, connecting fans in their eagerness for the main event. It was approaching 9 pm before fans exploded into applause welcoming Alex and her four fellow Americans to the stage.
The thudding bass of “Saving Grace” opened the show. Followed by “Crying All The Time”. Between songs, Savior introduced the audience to Lily Sheers on keys and drummer Alex Radakovich; two female musicians making their transatlantic mark.
Hailing Scotland as her “motherland”, Portland native Savior shared her love for the city she’d visited twice before. The hour-long set rolled out fan favourite “Girlie” sandwiching both album records and upcoming releases throughout the hour-long set. Finally closing with an encore of the album’s title track.
Savior continues her tour travelling south through the UK continuing European dates across the month.
