TV Shows & Films To See in 2023
Just like 2022, this year is filled with new upcoming TV shows and Films. There are a lot of films and TV shows that are catching the eye just by their trailers and the promotion. Who else is excited?
1. Barbie (2023)
The doll that almost everyone played, the blonde-haired doll that revolutionised the world of children's imagination is coming to the big screen on the 23rd of July 2023. The plot surrounds the doll who is obviously called Barbie who is played by the amazing Margot Robbie finds herself expelled from her world and shoved into the real-life world that is here. The movie will surround her trying to find happiness in a world she will come to understand. The film also stars La La Land’s Ryan Gosling as well as the upcoming Doctor in Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa.
2. Doctor Who
Doctor Who, the cultural classic spanning all the way back to 1963 has brought many fans of all ages together. With the revival of the show in 2005 after more than a decade's break, it came back strong. It was the show that made children hide behind their sofas and adults cry. However, as the years went by, the show got weaker and weaker in terms of writing. Especially, during the Chibnall era (2018-2022) audience ratings were at an all-time low. But, now that Russell T Davies is returning this year to write the 60th Anniversary and the foreseeable future of Doctor Who. Which is for sure going to make Doctor Who more fun and enjoyable to watch.
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
The Marvel classic starring Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, and more. Guardians of the Galaxy has managed to slide into most people’s favourite film within the Marvel universe. The first two films made people feel every single emotion from sadness, happiness and even anger. The films introduced memorable characters such as the egotistical Star Lord, the warrior Gamora, the witty duo of Groot and Rocket, and the invisible man Drax (Avengers Infinity War reference). With the news of Dave Bautista, who plays Drax, leaving the franchise, if you are a fan of Guardians of the Galaxy, then you must go and say goodbye to one of the best characters in the films on May 5th 2023.
4. The Last of Us.
The Last of Us, a horror/thriller video game based in an apocalyptic world is coming to the small screen. The show stars well known actor Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller and young actress Bella Ramsey as his friend Ellie Williams. The game and upcoming TV show surround the pair who are connected through the apocalyptic world they are currently living in. The two have endured surviving in the brutal circumstances and the ruthless killers that are what we would call zombies on their trek across America. There have been many tries to turn video games into either film or TV shows and most of the time it has failed. Failed in terms of the plot writing not exactly matching the video game and characterization. But with Pedro Pascal at the forefront and it being created by Award winning writer Craig Mazin and Last of Us creator Neil Druckmann. As one of the creators of the video game is taking part in creating the show. It should be good. It premiered on the 15th of January 2023.
5. Insidious 5
Insidious, one of the most popular film franchises among horror film fans next to the Conjuring films. If you want a film that will make you sit at the edge of your seat and hide behind your pillow then Insidious will do that. Just like Insidious Chapter one and two, Insidious Chapter Five surrounds the Lambert family once again facing paranormal activities from their past and present. The character of Dalton Lambert who is played by Ty Simpkins who is known for the Whale and his father Josh Lambert who is played by Patrick Wilson who also stars in the Conjuring universe, find that their repressed demons have returned. If Horror and Paranormal films are your go too, Insidious Chapter Five is a movie you will have to see.
Of course, there are way more films and TV Shows that are coming out this year that could be interesting but it is based on preference. These just catch the eye and seem more interesting than the rest.
