Celtic 13-0 Aberdeen: Aberdeen hit for unlucky 13 as Celtic break record

There was 13 goals, eight scorers and two hat-tricks as Celtic completed an historic feat at the Excelsior Stadium. This is Aberdeen’s biggest ever defeat, and this is the biggest win of the season for any top-flight team. Amy Gallacher took her goals tally up to 15 for the season with a hat-trick and Murphy Agnew scored her first hat-trick for the club. Cavanagh, Partido, Ross, Goldie, Hayes and a Ross double were the other goals to make up the 13-0 result.

Here are some of the key takeaways from the Ghirls’ monster victory:

The traditional three horse race seems to be a two horse race this season

In recent seasons, the title race has consisted of Glasgow’s big three, Celtic, Rangers and 16- time champions, Glasgow City. When Glasgow City won their 16th championship back in May, any of the three sides could have won it on the final day. Glasgow City have won 15 of the last 16 championships, only interrupted by Rangers’ 2021/22 success. Celtic are yet to win a championship despite being minutes away at the end of the last campaign, but after 14 games it looks like they might only have one side to worry about this campaign.

Last season, Glasgow City dropped 13 points across the season, beating Celtic and Rangers by two and five points respectively. This season, the reigning champions have dropped 10 points already and sit seven points behind the second-placed Ghirls and eight behind the Gers. It would now take a monumental recovery for Glasgow City to win their second title on the trot.

Amy Gallacher is one of the best players in the country

Amy Gallacher was the star of the show again for Celtic, as she chipped in with three goals and assists. Gallacher now has 25 goal contributions this season (the most in the league) and since joining the Celts back in 2022 she has scored 25 goals in 32 appearances. The Scotland international is well on track to win the PFA Scotland Women’s Player of the Year award if she can keep creating at the incredible rate which she is doing at the moment.

The two managers gave contrasting thoughts on the match

Celtic manager, Fran Alonso said: “I’m absolutely delighted. It was a very impressive performance. I don’t think I would be exaggerating if I said it was one of the best of the season.”

Celtic pulled off one of their best performances and results of the season, with their 3-0 win against Glasgow City in the cup quarter-final a couple of weeks ago. Celtic seem to be picking up momentum and it will be a tough task for any team in the league to take points off them, but they’ll need to wait a little longer for their next match as it is now the international break.

Aberdeen manager, Clint Lancaster said: “I don’t really know what to say. We didn’t turn up in the slightest. I don’t know what was wrong with us, but we were way off it and just really, really poor.”

Lancaster has an international window to get his Aberdeen side. firing on all cylinders again after a decent start to the season, despite just suffering their biggest ever defeat.
