Five Nights At Freddy's film review
The highly anticipated video game to movie adaptation “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” co-written by series creator Scott Cawthon, Director Emma Tammi and Scott Cuddeback features a stellar cast, including Josh Hutcherson playing down on his luck security guard Mike Schmidt, Elizabeth Lail playing Vanessa, a mysterious police officer who befriends Mike, and Piper Rubio who plays Mike’s quiet little sister Abby. Director Emma Tammi delivered this experience with a fresh take on the story from the games that gained worldwide success and a massive cult following.
The plot follows Mike, a chronic dreamer who can’t let go of the past, who had just been fired from another security job, he seeks guidance from career advisor Steve Raglan (Matthew Lillard) offers him a job as a security guard at Freddy Fazbears Pizza Place, an old pizzeria that shut down in the 80s after some mysterious child disappearances. The empty halls have been roamed by bloodthirsty animatronics ever since.
Mike must survive the night against the animatronics, while also uncovering secrets about his traumatic past. Occasionally joining him at this dangerous location are his little sister Abby and friendly but mysterious police officer Vanessa, who may have some secrets of her own.
Blumhouse Productions (responsible for films such as M3GAN) did a great job on bringing the animatronics to life, from the way they move to the way they interact with the human characters, it really does make up for the lack of gore that is more commonly found in the horror genre.
As of the 28th of November “Five Nights at Freddy’s” has grossed $295 million, from a budget of only $20 million. The film has now become one of the highest grossing video game to movie adaptations to date, currently ranking 12th on the list.
Despite having mixed reviews from critics, ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ is a love letter to die hard fans of the series who want a fresh take on the already established story and Scott Cawthon (developer of original Five Nights at Freddy’s game) should be proud of the amazing universe he has created.
