Take One Action returns for the 16th Take One Action Film Festival

Take One Action(TOA) returned for the 16th Take One Action Film Festival last week. This year’s theme was “Renewable”, showing off five films, each themed around humanity and our relationship with nature. The festival took place at the Glasgow Film Theatre from 6 - 10 December 2023.
Take One Action is a charity based in Edinburgh whose mission is to unite communities and influence positive social and societal change through film. This year’s film lineup included Geographies of Solitude, Our Entangled Rebellions, Uŷra: The Rising Forest, White Plastic Sky and Forest for the Trees.
Before the screening of White Plastic Sky, Xuanlin Tham, the curator for TOA, said: “While this is the first Sci-fi film we’ve ever screened, it’s absolutely in resonance with the question our festival is supposed to ask, as a meeting space between people and cinema to collaboratively explore and become further embedded in both social and climate justice.
“Sci-fi has always been a fascinating medium through which to set narratives of disaster. A compelling genre lens that, by creating some fantastical distance, almost paradoxically allows us to see ourselves closer. Good Sci-fi utterly transports you to a different realm before stripping back to reveal that we haven’t travelled all that far in the end.”
