Super Bowl 57 Preview

The biggest event in the American sports calendar takes place next week (12 February) as the Super Bowl kicks off in Arizona. The two top seeds will meet each other in the final for just the sixth time since 2000 as the Kansas City Chiefs face the Philadelphia Eagles for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Both sides have an identical season record of 14 wins and three losses and both teams have miraculously scored the exact same number of points this season with 546 each. All betting companies have the match most likely to end on a 1.5-point spread, meaning they have no clue who will win. The game is set to be one of the tightest Super Bowl matches ever.

To the casual viewer, it is no surprise that the Chiefs are again at this grand stage. It is their third Super Bowl in the last four years and have become an incredibly consistent franchise. The Eagles will be lesser known as this is only their second appearance after they won for the first time in 2017.

History will be made as this will be the first-ever Super Bowl where both quarterbacks (QBs) will be African-American. Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs) and Jalen Hurts (Eagles) will go head-to-head as the youngest ever QBs in the final with a combined age of just 51 years-old. The match will be a family affair for brothers Travis and Jason Kelce as they go against each other in the biggest match of their careers. A petition has been put online by fans for their mother to toss a coin to see who will win.

The race for this season’s MVP will likely be between Mahomes and Hurts as the two ‘young guns’ will look to fire their team to success on Sunday. The award will be given out sometime this week before the match, however, since the millennium, the winner of the MVP trophy has not won the final. In 22 seasons, the winner has failed to win the Super Bowl.

Overall, it will be intriguing to see who will be crowned league champion and with Rhianna performing at the halftime show, it is set to be the highlight of the NFL calendar.
