It was a Lowland League clash at Broadwood Stadium as Simon Ferry’s Open Goal Broomhill welcomed Tranent Juniors to Cumbernauld. Unfortunately for Ferry’s men, the visitors took home all three points despite Broomhill’s best efforts.

The match came to a quick firing start with some quality attacking football from the home side. Their efforts at goal resulted in a free kick from just outside the box. Veteran defender Kirk Broadfoot was the player to head it home as his side took the early lead in the fourth minute.

The first half was mainly controlled by the hosts, as Tranent had few chances, resulting in Broomhill holding on to their one-goal advantage. Ferry’s men showed some tremendous attacking play, as Evan Maley was unlucky with a chance at goal as his header went wide of the post, causing no threat for the Tranent ‘keeper around the 32nd-minute mark.

The first half came to an end and it was a dominating display from Broomhill as they took a 1-0 lead into the second half.

Tranent came out stronger in the second half and made the contest a lot more even which was unnerving for Ferry’s team.

Despite Broomhill’s efforts of keeping possession, Tranent always had an answer for them defensively and was able to hit them on the counter. Tranent’s efforts were awarded as they got themselves the equaliser in the 49th minute.

17 minutes later, they scored another and took the lead, much to the frustration of the hosts. The goal from Tranent was enough for them to see out the game despite the hosts' efforts at goal.

The final score was 2-1 to the visitors and while it was unfortunate for Broomhill, they can hold their heads high as they showed some great football which will help them in the long term, especially for next season.
