Film Review: 'Scream VI'
The sixth instalment of the iconic Horror franchise 'Scream' was released to theatres on the 10th of March and it was the thrill ride many were expecting.
'Scream VI' featured a star-studded cast of newcomers and current characters. Courtney Cox returned as fan favourite Gale Weathers, who returned to her route of being an investigative Journalist having sworn off it in the previous movie. Hayden Panettiere returned as her Scream 4 character Kirby Reed after surviving what many thoughts were her fatal death at the hands of Ghostface. Kirby has changed in the last 10 years since she met with the iconic serial killer and has used the trauma of the events to become an FBI agent.
The main four survivors from the fifth instalment returned and relocated to New York City. This featured the return of Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) and twins Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown). Tara, Chad, and Mindy now attend college in the states and are joined by Sam who is watching over her sister after the traumatic attack the previous year.
As well as the returning characters, we are introduced to some new faces, which add to the list of suspects. Jack Champion plays the role of Ethan, who is Chad's roommate. Josh Segarra plays the role of Danny, the mysterious “cute boy” across the block to Sam, who is her new love interest. Liana Libetaro joins the team as Quinn, both Sam and Tara’s roommate. Dermot Mulroney plays the role of Quinn’s father and Police Deputy Bailey. Finally, Devyn Nekoda plays the role of Mindy’s girlfriend Anika.
The iconic Ghostface returns voiced by Roger L. Jackson with the motive of succeeding in what the previous killers couldn’t, finishing off the Carpenter sisters.
The sixth instalment of the franchise was memorable and is filled with many fun kills and jump-scares that hardcore slasher fans will enjoy. The cast adds to this great movie with their great on-screen chemistry. And Roger L. Jackson is iconic as ever with his voiceover as Ghostface. Despite the absence of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, this movie is certainly one to watch and adds to what is an already great franchise.
