Nintendo Switch: The best games to play!

The Nintendo Switch is certainly a unique little console. Nintendo have been known to go in their own direction when compared to the Playstation and Xbox but this may be one of the company's biggest strengths. The Switch offers a unique home and away experience where the portable device can be taken on the go on a commute or docked at home on your TV. This made this console an absolute steal for gamers with busy lives trying to scratch that itch.

The Switch may be nearing the end of its lifespan now but it has racked up one hell of an impressive library of games. Not only full of some of the most groundbreaking first-party titles but also hosting a plethora of second and third-party titles as well as porting many fan favourites from other consoles past and present. Here are a few of those titles;

Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Yup. This is the best video game. It will come as no surprise that this makes the list as even though it is one of the first games to release with the Switch. It is still one of the most talked about titles on the console to this day and the only first-party Switch title to earn a Game of the Year award to date.

There is something special about this game, it strips back the tired open-world formulae to its core and builds on it in a way designed for pure adventure and wonder.

Everything can be interacted with in some way, everything in the world has a reason for being there and often you will be rewarded for experimenting and exploring the game's mechanics.

If you haven’t taken that trip to Hyrule yet this is the time to do it. With the sequel 'Tears of the Kingdom' soon arriving, this title is highly recommended.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

This franchise had always had a large fan base but with this title releasing right as the whole world was locked down this game became an escape for many of us in the toughest of times.

Building, decorating, and paying taxes to a racoon has never been so cute as it is with your Nook inc. Island Getaway Package. This title took the Animal Crossing formula and 1-Upped (pardon the pun) it in almost every way. Changing times of day and seasons alongside the real world gave people a reason to keep on coming back.

There is a real sense of community when it comes to 'Animal Crossing: New Horizons' that you just don’t get with a lot of other titles. Definitely, a more laid-back and casual title for people to explore.

Super Mario Odyssey

While 'Super Mario Galaxy' for the Wii is still potentially the best 3D Mario game to release, 'Super Mario Odyssey' is one of the absolute crowning jewels of the Nintendo Switch. Coming in with an open-world collect-a-thon, fun story, and new jumping mechanics for the athletic plumber, this is a must-have for Switch and Mario franchise lovers alike.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

For fans of brawler games this - as the name implies - is the ultimate incarnation of the 20-year-old series taking all the best characters from a huge range of franchises in possibly the most ambitious crossover in gaming history.

Ever wanted to see Mario and Pikachu fight the Wii Fit Trainer and Star Fox? Well in this game now you can!

This game has an in-depth tutorial area, a 20+ hour story mode and a super competitive online mode to sink your teeth into. It really has something for everyone!

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe' is the best-selling Nintendo Switch game of all time and for a good reason. Selling more than 48 million copies, this Wii U port came across to the Switch, adding the previous DLC packs and changing up the multiplayer for the better.

This game contains the biggest selection of courses to date with even more in the process of being released this year with the Booster Course Pack.

Bringing in a mixture of reimagined classics and new and innovative courses along with the added portability of the Switch, it is clear to see why this is the best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch.
