Rangers 2-0 Dundee United: Three things we learned
Rangers defeated bottom of the table Dundee United in an interesting affair. Here are three things we learned…
Malik Tillman is excellent
In this victory there were one or two standouts from what was a mediocre Rangers performance. However, one shining light was Bayern loanee Malik Tillman, who notched two goals in 85 minutes. In addition, he was brilliant all over the park. He ran himself into the ground chasing loose balls, hounding defenders and working hard to regain possession once it was lost. This is highlighted by six recoveries of the ball and 53% of ground duels won. On the ball he was even better, completing 91% of his passes, creating five chances and completing 60% of his dribbles. Tillman is becoming more and more consistent and the Rangers support are strongly urging the club to trigger that buy option and make him a permanent Rangers player.
Rangers need to finish their chances
Once again we saw another Rangers performance in where they absolutely peppered the opposition with shots only to finish with just two goals. Only seven of the home side’s 27 shots had hit the target, but this has been a running theme for Rangers this season and something that their rivals across the city haven’t had a problem with. It is an area where they have to improve if they are to hold on to any shred of hope for a league title.
Dundee United shouldn’t be at the bottom
Dundee United are certainly not the worst team to come to Ibrox this season. They threatened the Rangers goal a couple of times by playing on the counterattack and executing it well. They kept a good defensive shape, making Rangers work for the opener. If it wasn’t for a masterful pass from Todd Cantwell they might have gone into half time level. Looking at their squad you have to wonder how they have ended up at the bottom, but Dundee United fans shouldn’t worry as it is tight at the bottom and a string of good results can turn their season around.
