Why everyone is excited for Taylor Swift’s album re-records

Taylor Swift recently announced her newest upcoming re-record for 'Speak Now, Taylor’s Version' which is due to come out July 7, 2023. This would make Speak Now, Swift’s third album to be rerecorded and then rereleased, following 'Fearless, Taylor’s Version' and 'Red, Taylor’s Version'.

But what exactly is the reason for these rerecordings' and why do Taylor Swift fans get so excited for them?

Taylor Swift is one of, if not, the most famous female singer on the planet now and her newest original album, 'Midnights' may be the biggest success she’s ever had so why does she need to rerecord her old albums?

Swift used to be managed by Scooter Braun, one of the most powerful and popular musical managers in the world, he and Swift had a falling out back in 2020 which led to Swift firing him as her manager however, Braun did not take this lightly.

Swift's old record label sold her backlog of music for reported earnings of around $300 million and it was reported that Braun had bought the ownership to her first six albums which included some of Swift’s most successful songs ever such as, 'You Belong with Me' and 'Love Story' on Fearless and 'Shake it Off' and 'Blank Space' on 1989.

This meant that all these songs would be distributed by Braun and whatever more money was being earned from the music was Brauns and not Swifts.

Swift made many attempts to get back this music, however, was unable to as Swift signed this deal with the record company back when she was 14 which meant this music was not technically ever, ‘hers'.

Braun had been allegedly mocking Swift for a long time about this deal, laughing at the fact he was earning money from music she made.

So, Swift pledged to re-record these albums so there would be no need to play the old versions meaning Braun would not be earning any more money off her and this music would be entirely hers, she re-released Fearless with the name, Taylor’s Version, a subtle jab at her old label and Braun for not admitting her old albums where ‘hers'.

Swift said multiple times, Braun buying those albums is the biggest betrayal she’s ever felt, her old manager who she trusted had used her to receive more money. 'Karma', a song on ‘Midnights’ is a song about her enemy receiving bad karma while her life just gets better is even said to be written about Braun.

Taylor Swift fans or Swifties, anxiously await these rerecords as they wrestle morally over playing her old music, they do not want to give Braun any more attention or money but that would also mean giving up a lot of the music by your favourite artist.

When these re-records come out it means they can listen freely to her old music without worrying about Braun receiving anything off it. Now, with Speak Now coming out, it leaves only 'Reputation' and '1989' to be rereleased and after they’re out, Taylor is finally free.
