Fashion trends for 2024

By Yelyzaveta Basharova

2024 is the year to step up your fashion game.

2023 was an amazing year for fashion and 2024 has already shown its potential, here are seven trends you should look out for in the coming months.

1 - At the end of last year, the whole world was immersed in a huge trend of eco coats. Their appearance could be seen in all shops one by one and all social networks were filled with photos of them.  Fashion critics have already recognised these coats as a good long-term trend, so it's worth investing in them. This also includes fluffy hats, shoes with fur inserts, bags, and other clothing items.

2 - There is a huge fashion trend going on right now for using specific colours in our wardrobe. Since the end of last year, you can see how burgundy red has flooded the trends and shops, and its popularity will remain for the new year. Almost the entire Hermès spring/summer 2024 collection was an ode to this colour. Red is now joined by a couple of other colours that you should look out for. Trend bureau Worth Global Style Network declared a soft apricot shade called Apricot Crush as the colour of 2024, so it has already taken a leading place in the collections of many designers. Often associated with power and nobility, royal blue exudes confidence and nonchalance, which creates a sense of calm on the catwalk. It is one of the darkest trend colours of 2024, capable of transforming any wardrobe item into a statement piece. Spotted at Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester and Burberry.

3 - This winter, TikTok and other social media platforms were suddenly taken by a very cute trend for bows and ribbons or the "bow trend". Bows are now used as an elegant satin accessory around the neck, a hair tie or barrette, earrings, a decoration for a bag, dress, shoes and, for example, on headphones. So, you can experiment as much as you want.

4 - Tops, dresses, blouses: all tops with an open shoulder line will be especially relevant in the coming seasons. What to wear them with? Add trousers in tone and brogues or loafers and you have a set for every day. They also add beauty and a certain boldness to the images. Right now, for example, you can wear jumpers and warm dresses with bare shoulders.

5 - Ever since Cher walked the 1974 Met Gala red carpet in a completely see-through Bob Mackie gown studded with sequins and feathers, the naked outfit phenomenon has plagued the fashion industry. Almost all celebrities were seen in elegant translucent outfits in 2023. Such things in the wardrobe will take place obviously at all who are bolder, but it is definitely not going to go out of fashion. Designers find new ideas and create an interesting and stylish outfit, which is based on lace transparent material.

6 - Metallic combined with sequins and rhinestones has been in and out of fashion for varying lengths of time for a very long time now. It has now been all over the catwalks, from the shiny silver creations of Paco Rabanne and Giorgio Armani to the liquid gold of Celine. In 2024, metallic is expected to feature in looks not just as an accent, but as a complete outfit.

7 - Cheetah/leopard or snake print has a storied history in the fashion world. From its glamorous origins in the 1940s to its associations with the punk rock movement in the 1980s, leopard print has always exuded a sense of confidence and individuality. Now, in 2024, it's making a comeback. You can make any piece of clothing with this pattern or material. Pants, coats, bags, tights, anything. The key is finding the right balance and pairing it with complementary pieces. Neutral shades such as cream, black and white complement the leopard print.
