SPFL deadline day round-up

It’s been a busy deadline day in Scottish Football

Aberdeen’s manager hunt

Aberdeen look likely to sign Neil Warnock as their next manager, until the end of the 23/24 season. The deal is reported to be around a £200k wage as he tries to keep Aberdeen comfortable until May time.

Others in the race are Stephen Robinson, who is second favourite to take over the mantle, with Neil Lennon, Alex Neil and others among the names put forward.

Celtic’s window woes

Celtic have only made one signing so far in the January window, with their second looking to be Norwich City’s Adam Idah on loan until the end of the season.

Fans are upset with the lack of movement from the club, who were hoping to bring in many more players to continue their push for the club’s 54th league title.

Outwardly, Celtic look to be losing a few of their first team players, with Cardiff City set to sign David Turnbull for a deal worth up to £2m. Turnbull’s deal with the champions runs out at the end of the season, so they will be looking to cash in while they still can.

Another player who looks destined for the exit is Mikey Johnston, who is reported to be heading south of the border to West Brom.

Can Motherwell secure their Kevin van Dream?

Fc Groningen are looking to loan out Kevin van Veen with a number of Premiership clubs interested in the Dutch Forward.

The 32-year-old had a record breaking 2022/23 for Motherwell, securing himself a move to the Netherlands in the process. But things haven’t gone his way and a move back to Scotland looks on the cards.

St Mirren, Kilmarnock and Motherwell are the three main clubs who are trying to get the Dutchman's signature before the deadline.

Motherwell seemed unlikely to sign the forward but in a press conference this morning assistant manager Stephen Frail claimed that a move back to the Fir Park side can’t be ruled “out the water” just yet.

Livingston secure a signing

David Martindale makes what may be his last signing as the Livingston manager as he is under growing pressure from fans, with the club not winning a league game since October, a 2-0 triumph over Motherwell.

Midfielder David Carson joined from Inverness Caledonian Thistle, subject to international clearance. Spending five years at Caley Thistle, making over 100 appearances in that time he’ll be hoping to be the experienced head in the middle of the park for the Lions.

Martindale will be hoping to keep his side in the premiership for their 6th consecutive season, although he is staring relegation in the face.
