Review: Doppio Malto

The outside of Doppio Malto

As a lover of Italian food, and always walking about George Square coming out of college, Doppio Malto always caught my eye due to the brightly coloured van outside of the restaurant. So, for Valentines Day weekend, I knew where I wanted to go.

We had a table booked for 7pm that night, and with it being a Saturday, the restaurant was busy. Despite that, the service we received was outstanding. The staff were so lovely and patient, which made the experience better.

I immediately noticed the decor of the restaurants, pictures everywhere, and even having umbrellas at the ceiling at the front of the restaurant. It was a nice touch. Don’t worry, they even have a dedicated photo taking corner with a nice background if you wanted something nice for your Instagram feed! I was too awkward to get my photo taken there, but maybe next time!

Stunning inside of the restaurant

The toilets are downstairs, where there is another section of the restaurant. It is where people want to sit but do not want to have a meal, but just have a drink. There was a pool table there, and two foosball tables. I want to check that part out more if I plan on visiting the place again.

Spaghetti Carbonara

Now for the food, my boyfriend and I had a starter and a main, he ordered the Prosciutto E Mozzarella and Lasagne Casareccia, whereas I ordered the Bruschetta Al Pomodoro and Spaghetti Carbonara. Although we did enjoy the food, we were expecting a bit more due to how nice the place was. We weren’t the only ones that felt like this, a couple sitting next to us said the same thing to the server but loved the service they got.

Bruschetta Al Pomodoro

Overall, despite the food not being the main highlight, I had a good time visiting the restaurant. The staff were lovely, and the place was decorated nicely. For two people ordering a starter, a main and a drink each, the bill came to just over £60, which isn’t too expensive by the restaurant’s standards. I would like to visit the place again but want to check out the downstairs bar next time!
