Arriving on the cinematic landscape all the way back in 1954, Godzilla has become a staple of Japanese and monster movie cinema. As much as his films have become classics amongst moviegoers, his games have also garnered a cult following of their own. Starting on the Commodore 64 and going all the way to the PlayStation 4, an entire generation of fans have gotten to enjoy controlling the calamitous kaiju’s rampages for decades now.

However, despite the king of the monster’s success among gamers, he hasn’t had his own proper title in 10 years now. With his last game being ‘Godzilla’ for the PS4. Which itself was a release of a PS3 title which released earlier the same year. With his only appearances since being in mobile games and in DLC for other games.

There are two so far set for 2024. This being the Minecraft crossover, which already released at the end of January, and the Dave the Diver crossover set to release in May. Despite this a Godzilla game did technically release in 2023, being Godzilla voxel wars, a chibi-style turn-based strategy game that has left much of the fanbase perplexed. This is a notable departure from Godzilla’s previous titles.

Many fans have been pushing for Toho to go back to releasing games similar to the titles from the early 2000s. Such as Godzilla: Destroy all monsters melee for the GameCube, and Godzilla: Save the Earth for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox.  A large portion of the fanbase heading to fan-made games on sites such as Roblox. With fan games like Kaiju universe which mixes Godzilla with other popular kaiju media and characters like Pacific Rim, to tide them over until a new game eventually drops.

Toho has been oddly silent on the matter, despite the vocal demand from the fanbase for a new title. Which has left many wondering if the studio even has any plans to produce a new game for their flagship kaiju. Despite this though, fans are still optimistic their favourite city destroying reptile will return to the gaming landscape at some point in the near future.
