Tummy Monster making waves at GFT
By Ryan Mullen
Glasgow-based director Ciaran Lyons’ film premieres on March 2 2024 during the Glasgow Film Festival (GFF) and tickets have already sold out.
The film features a lot of local talent, such as rising star Lorn Macdonald, who will be present for a Q&A alongside the director and co-star Michael Akinsilure.
The festival features a lot of new premieres such as Bleeding Love featuring Scottish star Ewan McGregor and their daughter Clara McGregor, who was also a co-writer for the movie.
Chris Kumar, GFF programme coordinator, said: “A really big draw was that one of the films [Tummy Monster] was by a local director, and it sold out fast, it shows that there’s still a lot of Scottish interest.
“It’s a big cultural event, it’s very big for our audience and it’s a chance for people to see things before they release. It also might even be a chance for people to see things that might never get released in the UK.
“It’s a great way to generate interest in things that people might not go and see under normal circumstances.
“This year is very much a year of discovery for the Glasgow Film Festival. What we’ve been doing for the last three years culminated in the 20th edition. It’s pretty young compared to a lot of festivals, but it’s seen massive growth since we started.”
The GFF is a staple of local creative industries. It’s been going strong for 20 years, and despite some struggles post-pandemic, it’s come back strong for its 20th anniversary where stars and directors alike showed up at a red-carpet opening night which sold out rapidly.
