Overwatch 2 Season 9 Outrages Fans
By Molly Gibson
Overwatch two has just released season nine, bringing with it a whole slew of changes that change the game. Although many of these changes have inspired outrage from fans who feel the game is becoming too easy.
The main changes this season brings are some sizable balance changes that fundamentally changes the game. Every projectile has had its hitbox drastically increased and every hero has gotten a health increase, as well as a passive regeneration after not getting hit for a few seconds.
In addition to these balance changes there comes changes to competitive, adding an overview after every match to make it clearer how your rank is changing. Blizzard is also doing a “soft reset” on players' competitive rank in an attempt to give players the opportunity to climb higher in the ranks. It also includes Cosmic Crisis, a non-canon player versus environment game mode.
Featuring branching objectives and an Eldrich threat to combat. The new season also brings the rest of the usual additions like a new battle pass and many more skins available in the item shop.
The release of the season was met with immediate backlash from players. A day after the release of the season a player took to the Blizzard forums, creating a thread with over 2000 posts titled “Congratulations devs! You ruined the entire season 9”. The post details the player’s frustration with the new season and where the game overall is headed.
After the new season’s release, many players and content creators took to social media to show off the effects of the bigger projectiles on gameplay, complaining about how easy it now is to hit shots even when the crosshair isn’t on the enemy's model.
A twitter user even pointed out that the increase in projectile size makes some characters near impossible to headshot some heroes, even when aiming directly at their heads.
One reddit user said “I've played overwatch for years and years and I can confidently say that this is the worst the game has ever felt. I genuinely cannot fathom what they we're thinking with these changes.”
