City Live is a student-run news website run by the media and journalism students at City of Glasgow College. We launched in 2019 and are going strong to this day.
Our main goal this year is to provide accurate, comprehensive and consistent coverage of key events and news in the city of Glasgow.
This year, we will also introduce a gaming page to the current four categories on the website: news, sport, lifestyle and entertainment. These will also be covered on our podcast, video and social media sites.
The new City Live team have planned to implement exciting and unique content in each section in 2025.
Gaming
Stuart Pettigrew, editor of gaming, said: “The gaming department this year plans to focus less on game reviews and more on wider topics. Which is the best game you can play for free? Is there educational value to gaming? We hope to ask and explore interesting questions, as well as look at gaming in Glasgow in the first half of 2025.”
Podcast
Jamie Tosh, presenter of ‘LGBT On Screen’ and podcast editor, said: “The podcasting desk at City Live is well underway this year, with multiple projects in production by our amazing team. Leading the way is LGBT On Screen, a film podcast that predominantly discusses the camp side of queer cinema. Led by our very own podcast editor, every episode will be joined by a guest to discuss their favourite scenes, characters and (usually) songs from your favourite cult classics.”
Video
Aiden Scobie, deputy editor of video said: “The film desk is looking to branch out to a range of different styles this year, from reviews all the way to a miniseries. Our film team are looking to expand their creativity this year. With plans for seasonal content throughout the year there will be lots of different content to keep you entertained.
“Our goal is to make content for everyone to enjoy while being able to challenge ourselves to continually make better videos. We are already hard at work so keep a look out for videos coming your way shortly.”
Women in Media
Social lead of women in the media, Olivia Meehan, said: “The Women in Media is a student-run group of female-identifying City of Glasgow College students.
"Our goals are to create a wide range of female centred content including articles, podcasts and social media posts. We hope our posts can inspire other women who are interested in getting involved in media roles and bring attention to women's issues across society.
“We are aiming to expand our reach and bring attention to the talent and work of our members by getting involved in more events in the coming months, as well as putting on events of our own. Next year, we will be getting involved in the Glasgow 850 year-long celebration by producing content for it, which we hope will bring further attention and recognition to the group.
“Our main goal is always prioritising the women involved in our group and giving them an opportunity for their voices to be heard in the year ahead.”
Entertainment
Michael Salveta, entertainment writer, said: “The entertainment team will focus on reviewing classical and modern films, with a new addition of including special movie anniversaries each month. We also plan on bringing features on music that will focus on popular Glaswegian artists.
“Our goal is to bring consistent and professional content that keeps you up to date with the entertainment here in our city.”
The City Live team are more ambitious than ever to give you, the readers, the best content whilst generating innovative ideas for the website throughout the year. For more detail on the City Live teams’ plans watch our interview with Jessica Elliott, the Chief Editor on our YouTube channel.
Sport
Jack Meney is the sport editor this year and has ambitions for high-quality sports content to come from his desk.
He said: “I am planning on making sure that the content being uploaded is varied, covering many different sports. We are about to start uploading weekly content around football and some other stuff, too. It looks to be a busy but exciting time ahead.”
Lifestyle
Sasha Main is the Lifestyle editor this year.
She said: “I want the lifestyle desk to be all about fun and escapism. The world is full of heavy topics and the news can feel overwhelming sometimes so I want the lifestyle section of City Live to be a place that people can go to get away from all of the noise and maybe learn something new while they’re there.”
