After winning their first Super Bowl in 2017 and then losing 2 years ago against the Kansas City Chiefs, this was a season to remember for the Eagles. This season, The Eagles made their fifth Super Bowl appearance defeating the Kansas City Chiefs who were chasing a historic 3-peat just 2 years after the Chiefs broke Eagle’s hearts.

The success of the Eagles this season has been nothing short of remarkable, with a record of 14-3 which was largely down to the dominance of their defence. Conceding 303 points in the regular season which was the second least points against with the only team to have less points against was the LA Chargers with 301.

The Eagles have a very well-rounded team. Many people credit their defence as a main reason for their success, but their offence is just as good. This season Jalen Hurts had another stellar season making 21 touchdown passes and 19 rushing touchdowns.

However, the man who stole the spotlight this season was Saquon Barkley who in his first season made 20 rushing touchdowns and ran for 2,504 rushing yards. Barkley attracted a lot of attention on game week nine after pulling off an incredible reverse hurdle over an opposition defender.

The Eagles had a record of 5-1 in their division beating bitter rivals The New York Giants both times dominating the division. Eagles went on a 10-game win streak until they faced off against The Washington Commanders and rookie sensation Jayden Daniels. A 33-36 defeat ended the streak and handed them their first and only division loss of the season.

By the time the playoffs came around they were handed four very hard fixtures, defeating the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round and the LA Rams in the Divisional round. The Eagles became NFC champions after thumping The Washington Commanders 55-23 lifting The George Halas Trophy and booking their spot in Super Bowl LIX.

The performance from the entire team during the playoffs was immense with Quarterback Jalen Hurts throwing five touchdown passes and five rushing touchdowns. Saquon Barkley also stepped up to the challenge making seven rushing touchdowns and covering 499 rushing yards.

Despite Hurts and Barkley’s stellar performances, it was the defence that was a main talking point for the Eagles. Their finest hour came on the biggest stage, the Super Bowl itself. The Eagles managed to force three turnovers and sack Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes six times without having to blitz. For the Chiefs it was a losing battle from the first kick as the Chiefs struggled to find answers to both the Eagles offence and defence. The Eagles on the other hand looked comfortable for majority of the game taking a 34-0 lead before the chiefs eventually got on the board.

The Eagles have had a wonderful year adding a Second Lombardi to their Cabinet and it is yet another great achievement in their recent history. Eagles’ fans will look forward to the next season and their Super Bowl defence.
