Russian 17-year-old tennis star wins the 2025 Indian Wells Open

Tennis star Mirra Andreeva triumphed over current women’s No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the Indian Wells Open final.

The Russian tennis prospect defeated Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the desert of California. Andreeva makes history by becoming the Indian Wells Open’s third youngest winner in the tournament’s history after icons such as Martina Hingis and Serena Williams.

Andreeva has been taking the tennis world by storm with recent back-to-back wins in the Dubai Tennis Championship and the prestigious Indian Wells Open.

At a mere 17 years old, the tennis prodigy has already beaten current women’s No. 2 Iga Swiatek and No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka while claiming a ranking of 6th in the Women’s Tennis Association.

The teenager’s unique playing style has led to a sequence of defeating high-ranking players, gaining more media attention for her ongoing winning streak. Andreeva, whose playing style consists of intense groundstrokes and agile movements covering the court, looks to the likes of Ons Jabeur and Maria Sharapova as inspirations.

The tennis prodigy is coached by Conchita Martinez, a former world No. 2 and Wimbledon winner in her own right. The duo teamed up after the Russian teenager’s quick exit from the Indian Wells Open last year.

The teenage tennis star has not only won tennis fans over with her phenomenal playing style but also with her impressive mentality. Her winning speeches are often filled with self-praise, which in the tennis world is refreshing and unconventional for a young women player to do.

Andreeva starts this year accumulating many points from her two Master wins. Her next competition is the Miami Open, where she will be playing singles in addition to playing doubles with Diana Shnaider.

The teenager dreams of achieving the “Sunshine Double”, which consists of winning both the Indian Wells Open and the Miami Open, an accomplishment many prestigious players fail to achieve.

The tennis world is witnessing the rise of a prominent young star in women’s tennis, leading with her fierce playing style and empowering self-confidence. The sky is the limit for the Russian youngster.
