Gretna 3-3 Stirling Uni 01.03.25
There was a whirlwind of goals in last week's fixture in the Lowland league starting with a 6-goal thriller. With both teams in similar spots in the lower end of the league it was clear to see the desperate push for a win as neither team could hold their lead.
It was Fin Moffett who was played through the defence, and his clean strike that put Uni up 1 in the opening 17 minutes. An ideal start for Stirling as they looked to take all 3 points away from this game. However, Gretna won a corner, and it was Ian Anderson who headed home to equalise for the hosts.
Gretna wasted no time in winning the ball back and a quick counter up the pitch meant Dean Brotherson gave them the lead.
Entering the second half with the lead, Gretna turned it from good to great as Dean Brotherson latched onto the ball on the far post and tucked it away to make it 3.
Stirling Uni made several subs to try to reconcile the game.
The fresh players gave the visitors a boost, and after a very scrappy play in the box, Sam Martin found himself on the score sheet.
With just 5 minutes to go, a superb passage of play and a great finish gave Moffett his brace and a late equaliser.
A fantastic game with neither team holding back, but disappointing for Gretna 2008 as they bottled a great lead.
Caledonian Braves 1-3 Albion Rovers
Albion Rovers visited Caledonian Braves; however, the trip wasn't quite what the Braves expected as their visitors confidently beat them.
The hosts were the first to draw blood in this top table clash, with a great swinging corner to Dan Martins who headed it towards the keeper who managed to save it, but right into the path of Reg McLaren. Who makes it 4 goals in 4 games for the boy.
Their lead vanished quickly with a ball played to Paul Kenndey who didn't hesitate to smash it top left making it 1-1.
Dan Martins nearly pushed Braves ahead again but a goal line clearnce after the corner was well credited.
Rovers won a penalty and this time it was their turn to have a crack at getting in front. Kennedy stepped up to take it and blasted it beyond the keeper.
A corner for Rovers was delivered perfectly by Kennedy again, unfortunately for him Adam Fernie nicked it in and claimed the goal. Maybe not a hattrick but a contribution to every goal to give his team 3 points.
An outstanding display from Kennedy and a great win, means Albion steal points from the Braces who sit a couple spots above them.
Brechin City 1-1 Clachnacuddin
City had to settle for a point in this year's title race.
It was a tight game for both teams as City wanted all 3 points to challenge league leader Brora. Despite the gap in the table between the two teams, the guests still put up a fight.
The deadlock was yet to be broken as Brechin pushed for an opening but missed chance after misses chance left them gutted.
It was the Inverness outfit which broke the stalemate, when a corner was played in and after some confusion in around the box from the defenders, Anderson was the man at the back post to put the ball away and give the guests a huge goal in the 70th minute.
City played with desperation and after even more missed chance it didn't seem it would be their day.
2 minutes to play and it was super sub Scott Logan who fired a left footed shot across the goal and into the net.
City felt as they dropped 2 points in this game and Clachnacuddin were ashamed to not hold onto the lead that was important.
