9 - Nice n’ Sleazy

Sitting in the heart of Glasgow’s famous party strip Sauchiehall Street, Nice n’ Sleazy is one of Glasgow’s best venues when it comes to music.

Christened by famous Scottish bands such as Franz Ferdinand, the influence Nice n’ Sleazy has had on Glasgow is clear to see, especially from the young guns of the city looking to make it big.

A member of one of Glasgow’s many local bands, Daniel from The Revenants, said: “Nice n’ Sleazy is a cosy venue with a great sound and is perfectly suited to the rock/indie genre.”

8 - Room 2

A hidden gem in Glasgow’s city centre, Room 2 sits quietly in Nelson Mandela Place (that is until the music starts booming). One of the loudest venues in Glasgow, Room 2 blasts the night away with many of Glasgow’s young bands claiming it to be their favourite small venue.

The club has hosted names such as Kyle Falconer of The View.

Jess Crighton, a regular gig-goer and photographer, said: “Despite it being quite a stuffy venue, some of the bands showcased there can’t be missed and the sound there is also good.”

7 - AudiO

Located under the hustle and bustle of Central Station, Audio is also another hidden gem of Glasgow’s city centre. It is a must-go for any Scottish gig-goer who wants to experience a great atmosphere. The rumble of the trains above adds even more to the vibe, and there’s a massive dancefloor, so plenty of room for the moshers.

However, it’s not just a rock venue. It has hosted many DJ nights with artists like The Funk Hunters on the decks.

A proper old-school venue located on Oswald Street, it’s a perfect location for any goths or rockers who want to experience a real night of rock ’n’ roll.

Ivory Blacks has hosted names such as English rocker Blaze Bayley. They also have many nights for up-and-coming bands of any genre from shoegaze to punk.

It’s a venue that you should definitely think about visiting.

5 - The OVO Hydro

One of the more mainstream venues in Glasgow, The OVO Hydro hosts all varieties of events, but we’re here for the music. It may not be the most intimate or atmospheric of places, but the size, stature and sound of the place cannot be beaten.

The Hydro has hosted everyone from Olly Murs to Stevie Nicks to Liam Gallagher, and hosts a wide selection of artists from all around the world.

It’s a guarantee you’ll have a great night here.

4 - The O2 Academy

The O2, located on the outskirts of the city centre, is one of the most iconic Glasgow venues. It has played host to a plethora of artists from Chappell Roan to Fontaines DC.

If you want the same glitz and glam of the Hydro in a more intimate environment, the O2 is the place for you.

With a massive standing area and plenty of seats, a packed-out O2 is hard to beat when it’s bouncing.

2 - King Tuts

King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut is one of the main establishments in not just Glasgow, but the whole of the UK’s music scene. With only around a 300 capacity, it feels like you’re in amongst thousands at Tut’s.

King Tut’s has given us some of the biggest and best in the UK. They’ve boasted names such as Oasis, Paolo Nutini, The Verve, and far more. Not bad for a wee venue in Glasgow, eh?

1 - The Barrowlands

The Barrowlands, need I say anymore?

Originally erected as a dance hall in 1934, The Barrowlands has evolved into an absolute mammoth of a venue, if not in size, in name. The Barrowlands has a sprung dancefloor, all the better for helping you bounce. After countless nights at the Barrowlands, I can confirm you’ll be bouncing all the way home.

It’s another venue that hosts a wide range of artists such as Aussie punk rockers Amyl and the Sniffers and American pop sensation Ice Spice.

Josh Beggs, of ‘The Gerry Cinnamon Experience’, has also played at the venue. He recalled: “I don’t know what to say other than it was one of the best experiences of my life. The crowd were that loud I had to have my monitor all the way up.”
