A Weirdly Satisfying Experience- 'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' Review

The long-awaited sequel for the ‘Venom’ franchise is here and it does not disappoint. It manages to satisfy long-time and new fans by offering a good mix of action and a very unusual love story between Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and his alien symbiote Venom.

The film takes off where the first one finished; showing bumps in a relationship between the odd couple before the villain of Cletus Kassidy is united with Venoms offspring, who goes by the name of Carnage. The two villains then go looking to kill Venom and Eddie, but not before going on a killing spree as soon as they are formed.

Woody Harrelson, who plays the crazed lunatic Kassidy, does an expertly done job of bringing the psychotic killer to the big-screen and provides a solid villain in a film that only clocks in just over 90 minutes.

Full of action and exciting moments, the ‘Venom’ sequel also provides the audience with many moments of comedy. Jokes that a child would find funny can be found throughout the whole feature, with the film also providing the viewers with many moments of slapstick that can bring a giggle to people of any age.

With its short runtime, ‘Venom’ struggles to add more moments to flesh out the story and provide more screentime to other side characters such as Scream or Anne. The film, as a whole, feels cramped together and could’ve provided so much more to the plot if it could’ve been longer. Although it may not be on for long, the film ends with an epic fight scene that allows it to end on a high.

The creators do a magnificent job of bringing the Aliens to life in the film. With fantastic CGI on both Venom and Carnage, detail was crucial as every subtle thing of the characters was fleshed out to a high level.

Venom as a character is a big fan-favourite in the Marvel community, so this was highly anticipated by many people and the sequel provides these fans with a more enjoyable experience than the first one.

‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ never took itself seriously at any point and it aimed to give the audience a laugh but also provide them with action and suspense and the creators did not disappoint.

The film, while enjoyable, could’ve been so much more and was slightly let down by how short it was and failure to move the story along smoothly on occasions. It will not go down as one of the greatest films of all-time, but anyone can find enjoyment in what is overall a fun experience. With good CGI and a good cast, it is a film that will pass for fans alike.
