Hamilton vs Hearts (SWPL) - Match Review

As the cold winter nights begin to set in, the bottom of the SWPL1 table met second bottom as Hamilton Academical vs Hearts finished in a 1-0 victory to Heart of Midlothian. 

Both sides in the first half created promising goal scoring opportunities but failed to follow through with that final blow to break open the score line.  

Hamilton keeper Jeni Currie was rarely called into action during the opening 15 minutes of the second half. One of Hearts’ most notable attempts was from Monica Forsyth as she quickly raced against Accies’ defenders and sent the ball flying diagonally across the front of the goal.

75 minutes in, Currie's skills were once again called into action as back-to-back goal attempts were deflected by herself and the posts.  

Hearts pushed ahead with only five minutes remaining in the second half with Lia Tweedie’s brazing strike being too much for Ross to handle. 

 Walking away from the match with the full three points means Hearts are now in sixth ahead of Spartans, Partick Thistle, Aberdeen and Hamilton.  Only four points and a better goal difference separates Hearts from Accies now. 

Hamilton’s head coach Gary Doctor said: “It was a disappointing result and performance from us. We think we let ourselves down today after a couple of good performances. 

“I’m not sure speaking to the players at the end the reason. We froze a little bit today and that was really disappointing, we didn’t play with the same vicar we have against better teams so ultimately extremely disappointing.
