Premier League: Three Things we Learned as League Football Returns

The Premier League is back in full swing after the international break, and this weekend promised more moments of drama as teams looked to retain form, get form back and looking to save their manager’s future.

Ole sacked as Watford Humiliate United (Watford -4 Manchester United- 1)

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has finally seen his tenure at Man United come to an end, after news broke on Sunday morning that he was relieved of his duties after a humbling defeat at Watford. The pressure never escaped Ole this season and with a run of poor results over the last two months, it came as no shock to the United fans that he was let go.

Reports are coming out that PSG manager Maurico Pochettino is United’s first choice to take over, with Michael Carrick set to take over on an interim basis.

Watford’s fantastic display was overshadowed due to the sacking of Solskjaer, but this result has put them four points clear of the drop. Ranieri can now look to start a run of form, with confidence now at an all time high after humiliating the 20 time Premier League champions.

Watford took full advantage of United being at their lowest, and despite missing a penalty, they stuck four past Ronaldo and co in an impressive team display to pile on the misery for United fans.

Arsenal put in their place at Anfield (Liverpool 4 Arsenal 0)

Arsenal are now looking to get themselves back up again after another drubbing at the hands of Liverpool. A recent run of impressive results saw the Gunners rise to fifth in the table but Mikel Arteta will go back to the drawing board once again with another heavy defeat at the hands to one of the big six and will need his team to step up in these games if they are to get back into the top four and be back in the Champions League.

Liverpool were angry, and were looking to take it out on Arsenal after their defeat to West Ham. Liverpool will be able to now prioritize their league games with first place in their Champions League group already secured, and with the busy Christmas schedule coming up, they will look to build on this victory and to continue to catch up in the title race.

The home side were ruthless after the first 30 minutes, with a touchline spark between the two managers seemingly lighting the game alight and four goals followed in a dismantling of the Gunners.

Gerrard gets win in first game (Aston Villa -2 Brighton -0)

Steven Gerrard is finally a Premier League manager after recently going invincible last season with Rangers and winning them the Scottish Premiership. He will now look to move his team forward and make the most of his first win at home to Brighton in order to finish as high as possible after a poor run of form for his team prior to his arrival.

Brighton are now seven games without a win and Graham Potter will certainly want to get his team back on form as soon as possible due to the upcoming Christmas schedule, but they are still well adrift of the relegation zone and should be able to gain some form to stay in the division once again. It was the late show from Aston Villa and after two fantastically taken goals, they now are pulling away from the drop in their pursuit for a strong season under a new coach for a while.
