Spider-Man No Way Home Review: An Absolute Thrill
For the good part of a year, Spider-Man No Way Home has been the talk of cinema lovers after several set pictures, trailers and multiple leaks. Even with the massive expectations placed on the creators’ shoulders, they somehow managed to exceed all of them.
Audiences were eager to see how Tom Holland portrayed Peter Parker in his third solo outing. Additionally, the return of many childhood favourites such as Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus got people of all ages hyped.
This time around the film takes on a much darker approach compared to the light-hearted tone of previous installments. Peter struggles, and he faces tough decisions as he tries to balance his personal life with the life of a superhero.
Tom Holland repays all of the fans in his stellar performance of the character, treating them to two and a half hours of excitement, sadness and anger.
The actor described the film as “a celebration of three generations of cinema”, about how it brought many moments of theatre into one massive spectacle, especially with the return of old characters, including others such as Electro and The Lizard.
With Robert Downey Junior’s time as Spider-Man’s mentor, Tony Stark, finished the web swinger needed a new mentor and someone who could help him mature. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr Strange did a fantastic job in replacing a fan favourite in Iron Man.
The outstanding CGI shows how far superhero films have come since the early 2000s and will have everyone in awe over how the final product came out.
The pressure was really on for producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige, but the end product is nothing short of remarkable. Recently it’s been confirmed that Tom Holland will continue as Spider-Man and Peter Parker for the foreseeable future.
Many people thought it would be a while before any film matched fan adoration for Avengers: Endgame, but Spider-Man No Way Home has seemingly surpassed this, with the installment gaining more excitement since the 2019 film.
It is arguably the better film, with all the love put into one character as it challenges him through a rollercoaster of emotions in a much darker setting. Yet it still brings out the goofy off-the-wall MCU film that fans have grown to love. It’s a tall order to call any film perfect, but this very much is and will be a joy to watch for years to come.
