Dating During Covid: How Have Things Changed?
Covid-19 has certainly slowed down the dating process, as people can no longer meet people the old-fashioned way, i.e. on nights out or in social settings. In order to combat this issue, many single people have turned to dating apps such as Tinder.
Tinder has reported 11 per cent more swipes and 42 per cent more matches in the last year. The question of safety still looms though, as everything returns to normal; how safe do people feel about going on dates?
Tinder CEO, Jim Lanzone said: "As far as we know from the past 15 to 18 months, people have really leaned in to getting to know people virtually, even having relationships virtually, before they take those relationships offline.”
Online dating app users have been encouraged to video chat, as oppose to meeting up; and get fully vaccinated before meeting with potential partners.
It has worked well for users to engage more via text as statistics by OkCupid show that 31 per cent of people prefer to engage virtually and 25 per cent prefer video calls over meeting in person.
So, while it has been a good alternative to make use of these apps during the pandemic, people can’t wait to go out once again and enjoy the freedoms of life, with a new outlook and perspective.
